Chapter Three.

Chapter 3

Her mother sat at the top of the stairs, her silluete seen sitting on the top of the stairs, bent over her knees, both palms pressing against her eyes as she cries. “Think about the children! They need you! THEY NEED YOU!!” She shouts, not noticing one of those children watching.

“THEY…” The other voice, a male’s, fades. He knew they needed him. Otherwise they would fall to their mother’s acts, but she had betrayed him. She sold her body; she cheated on him, and Still dealt with drugs. Even after all he had her promise.

She clutched her knees gently against her chest, burying her eyes against her knees. “Please let them stop… Please.” She spoke that aloud. “Please, please stop.”

“THE CHILDREN NEED YOU! I NEED YOU! Don’t Go!... Don’t go…” Her mother’s voice calls softly.

“YOU DON’T NEED ME! YOU ONLY NEED THOSE THAT ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR YOU!” Was the sharp reply of the male. Much better than knives.

“Please, make it stop…” She softly whimpers, clutching her knees tightly.

“I TOLD YOU I WOULDN’T DO IT ANYMORE! WHY CANT YOU TRUST ME?!” Her mother shouts, and a shadow of a frame passes her, moves down the stairs and the door slams. She could hear soft mumbling, ‘Trust her?.. What don’t I trust her?...”

She was visibly shaking as her mother cries out, “Nooo! NOOoo! NOOOOO!”

She sits up sharply, and looks straight forward, the darkness only allowing the memory to linger in her eyes. The voices having been as vivid as they had been when she had experienced the painful memory. She was fully tensed, noticing that she had held her breath, she softly, and slowly exhales. Upon inspection, she notices that she had been clutching tightly to the bed.

A soft, almost spiteful tone is heard, breaking her train of thought, “Are you done?” Her eyes meet the familiar musty green eyes of Chives. She fails to reply, yet doesn’t seem to need to, as Chives shortly comes to speak, “Master Sylvan wanted me to show.. You, around.” He held back from saying something, it was obvious.

“Alright..” She begins to slip her legs around to the edge of the bed, soon having her feet softly to the ground. Her fingers lace with one another as she extends her arms forward, stretching them as a couple of pops can be heard from this stretching. “What time is it?...” She asks gently.

“It’s a little after noon. Master Sylvan will wake as the sun lowers; he also wanted you to shower and change into these clothes.” Chives spoke in a monotone, and failed to show any lightness to his tone or eyes as he places some clothing into her lap. “When you finish your shower, I will be waiting in here.” And as if he knew her next question, he says, “The light switch is to the left of the door when you walk in.”

With that, she softly takes the clothes upon her hold and straightens, slowly walking into the bathroom and flicking on the light. She closes the door behind her, not looking back to Chives, but to the large area of the room before her. There was a nice, huge old fashioned bath tub, and marble counters along the walls, everything was beyond neat, they were all richly decorated with everything she would need. She lifts the clothes before her and is taken aback by the rich clothing. The clothes would happen to be similar to what she currently wore, but better, and there was a corset, probably to help enhance her appearance to Sylvan’s liking. Perhaps slightly unnerved, she slips from her clothing and walks silently to the bath, she begins by turning on the water, fixing the temperature before slipping into it.

After she’s finished cleansing herself with the lovely smelling soaps, she draws from the water and moves to a towel, in which is positioned on the counter, probably for her efficiency. She lifts the towel and dries herself off before slipping into her undergarments, soon wrapping the corset about her chest and waist, over her undershirt. She slowly exhales as she sharply tightens it to her frame, tying it before slipping into a blood red, strapless top, and a long black skirt of fine fabrics. Her eyes scan the counter as she finds a brush, working her hair dry and to a fine state, so her blonde hair shimmers slightly as light falls upon it. She looks to her reflection and is take aback, having not held so much effort to her appearance, and obviously it paid off. Her cloths held to her curves so well, and her hair looked nice for a change.

With gentle, silent steps, she moves forward and from the room, draining the bath and turning off the lights as she stands before Chives. He merely points to some heels that she is meant to wear, and starts forward, expecting her to follow.

She slips into the shoes before following him, her steps now having a soft tapping sound to each of her taken steps. Unable to stand too much silence, she speaks as they leave the room, “Where are we heading towards first?”

“I am showing you the reading room, and the rooms upstairs. Then Master Sylvan wants you in the ballroom.” He spoke to her as if it were the last thing in the world that anyone would want to do. And he kept his pace a little more quickly than her own, so she couldn’t keep at his side, but had to keep behind him.

She didn’t reply and merely followed him for a while, her gaze slipping to the walls before Chives stops and enters a room; she follows him inside to see rows upon rows of bookshelves. Each shelf was labeled to author’s name, type of book, and seemed to also be ordered by preference. There were a few comfortable looking chairs littering the room. They leave shortly before he leads her to a staircase, taking her upstairs to see the guest rooms. There were so many there that it took until nightfall to see each of them.

“Alright. Master Sylvan wants you in the ballroom now. You will wear this..” Chives reaches upwards and ties a silk cloth over her eyes, then takes her wrist and leads her forward, not telling her when they move down the stairs, having her nearly fall, yet not complain. There was a mixture of sounds, something similar to voices, then everything draws silent, not even the slightest sound, save for each of her breaths. Chives grip to her wrist tightens slightly, before she hears a door open, then Chives pulls on her wrist, and pushes her in front of him, leaning forward to draw the blindfold back.

Her electric eyes slowly open as the well furnished ballroom lays before her, and a whole bunch of people. They were mostly pale, and held striking features, yet all watched her in silence. She held her breath, confused and unsure on what there was to do, or what she was expected to do.
